– Sofia and Veera

The Women Behind the Food

Veera Kraft and Sofia Kotiranta met while working in the kitchen of Silvoplee and collaborated there for several years. Their dream of owning a restaurant materialized when they saw an advertisement for a space becoming available in the soon-to-be-renovated Hakaniemi Market Hall. Their excitement was palpable, and after rolling up their sleeves, these superwomen established the restaurant in record time.

Sofia has spent over a decade working in various vegetarian restaurants in Helsinki and has dreamed of owning her own restaurant since the beginning of her culinary career. She loves learning about flavors from different countries and incorporating them into her cooking—Indian cuisine holds a special place in her heart. According to Sofia, a perfect vegetarian dish includes freshness, diverse textures, contrasting flavors, and an abundance of herbs.

For Veera, food has been a passion since childhood. Her love for food led her to study hospitality management and later to California to become a raw food chef. Before Lohtu, she ran her own catering and raw food business and has extensive experience in both the restaurant and finance industries. For Veera, the most important aspects of cooking are high-quality, body-friendly ingredients—but above all, taste and the joy of eating.

It was very crowded when we arrived and we had to wait a little for a table to free, but other than that i've got nothing complain about. Such tasty vegan food i haven't eaten in a while!

This restaurant is open only for lunch. It is fairly new, upstairs in the recently renovated Hakaniemi Market Hall. It has a very welcoming deco and interesting daily menu, especially if you like vegetarian food. Smartly most tables are for 2-3 people, since that seemed to be the most common group size. Food was very good and not expensive. I would liked it warmer though. The lukewarm coffee was not my liking.

First stop after dropping my luggage, the food here is amazing, delicious, healthy, fresh, and interesting! Seriously what a treat after the overpriced tourist food on the Ferry from Stockholm. The menu changes daily so check the website for the daily special :)

Solid place to have food. Only 3 items available and the place is full. That says a lot. The food looks and tastes beautiful, and I am sure those who are not vegetarians will also be satisfied with the meal. I love their liberal use of fresh herbs. People working there are friendly too!

Meal comes with tea and coffee. Tea provided on that day was a black tea with berries infusion. It smelled and tasted wonderful.

A hidden gem indeed.
